21/12/2018 Moumita Ghosh * Rich folk culture and traditional heritage have always been the most important part of Indian art and culture. The state West Bengal is also famous for some of its very indigenous folk culture, and ‘ Gajan ’ is one of them. It is a part of ' Charak ' festival observed on the occasion of the worship of the lord Shiva; as He is referred as the prime-mover. ' Gajan-gaan ' (' Gajan ' songs) originates in the heart of common people, and this expresses their social, religious and political status, demonstrating the history of class struggle, social stratification, and exploitation of marginal class by the upper class and political hegemony. 'Charak' ( PC Google ) Lord Shiva is imagined as a healthy, handsome person with a tiger skinned on, with a trident in the left hand and ‘ damru’ in the right. 21/12/2018 Neha Chatterjee* Our trip to Himachal is one of my memorable trips that I would like to share. As the train left from Howrah our souls were filled with enthusiasm. The next day we reached Ambala cantonment. Journey towards the Himalayas begins with it. Our first destination was Shimla. Shimla , is the capital and the largest city of the northern Indian state of  Himachal Pradesh . Shimla is also a district which is bounded by  Mandi  and  Kullu  in the north,  Kinnaur  in the east, the state of  Uttarakhand  in the south-east, and  Solan  and  Sirmaur . Shimla is on the south-western ranges of the  Himalayas  at  31.61°N 77.10°E . It has an average altitude of 2,206 metres (7,238 ft) above  mean sea level  and extends along a ridge with seven  spurs . The city is beautiful and clean. The main highlights of the city are the Shimla Kali Bari and the mall road. Way to Shimla   Then the next day we started for Sarahan which is a village in the Kinnaur district. Th

I thought it worth writing a blog about our impressions and the beauty of nature. I can never hope to describe like movies, poets, storytellers have shown and described the splendour of Kashmir. I will just say it’s one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I have travelled to many places throughout India but the beauty of Kashmir will always remain evergreen in my mind till my last breath.  Pir Panjal Range In Kashmir, we were in Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Srinagar, Pahalgam and Patnitop. Gulmarg is called ‘snow clad Switzerland of India’ …Snow covered natural meadows mesmerized us. The town is situated in the Pir Panjal range of the western Himalayas. Blind valleys were new to me in Pahalgam. The beauty of Betab and Aaru valley was treat to our eyes. It offers an unforgettable horse ride trip up to the valley.  Betab Valley Riv
